Are you ever really ready to quit your job and travel full time?
With only a few days left before we officially head off on our year long trip things are starting to get real. Our savings account is no where near as full as I’d have liked. We have no pre-booked plans and we still have things to do before we leave.
All this unknown might be enough for most people to push back their departure date but the truth is no matter how much time we have we will never be 100% ready to leave. I don’t think anyone is truely ever ready to pack up their life and travel for a year with a young child. But that’s where the excitement lies for me - I love the unknown and the unplanned moments.
We are lucky that our van ‘OLLI’ has everything we need inside and comes everywhere with us.
We have been living in our van for over 6 months now and I can honestly say we have halved the amount of clothes already that we thought we needed and we have learnt to shop smarter and lighter ha ha ha. I think one of the biggest suggestions I could give to someone preparing for full time travel it to do a few test runs. We have already figured out this lifestyle and all our vans quirks prior to hitting the road full time.
I have also done a lot of research as to the pros and cons of planning out a full lap of Australia or not and I’m thinking it’s better to have very loose/no plans at all. If we like a town we can stay and if we don’t we can move on. The main advantage of this is that we can customise our trip every day based on the weather and Nyah’s mood.
In saying this we have a planned out a rough guide as to the direction we will head and some key things we would like to see on the way. However good old 'rona' could change that at any point. If you have done a lap before or have any suggestions please leave us a comment below.
We are set to leave on May 29th 2020 and I can’t wait to see how this adventure unfolds for our little family. If you want to follow along pop on over to our instagram page and say hi - @life.in.olli
